The amount of firewood you need in East Tennessee can vary based on factors such as the size of your living space, the efficiency of your heating appliance, and the severity of the winter climate. We recommend starting with one face cord for a week-long stay in a vacation home. On average, a household solely heated by firewood in East Tennessee might use 1 to 3 cords of wood for a heating season.

However, it's important to consider your specific circumstances and usage patterns to determine the exact amount of firewood needed.

Our standard length is 14". However, we can cut logs into firewood at any length, ensuring uniform sizes. The wood's diameter may vary, but the length will be consistent.

The amount of firewood you need for your outdoor fire pit can vary based on the size of the fire pit, the desired duration of the fire, and the intensity of the heat you want to generate. As a general guideline, a typical outdoor fire pit might require 4-5 bundles for a single evening of use or a whole face cord for a weekend experience.

However, it's important to consider your specific fire pit and usage habits when estimating the amount of firewood needed.

The amount of firewood you need for your campsite can vary based on the duration of your stay, the frequency of fires, and the local regulations regarding firewood collection and usage. As a general guideline, for a weekend camping trip, a bundle or two of firewood per night might be sufficient for evening campfires.

It's important to be mindful of any firewood restrictions at your campsite.

Hardwoods such as oak, maple, and birch are generally considered the best species of wood for burning indoors. Hardwoods are denser and can provide a longer-lasting, hotter burn compared to softer woods. They also tend to produce less creosote buildup in chimneys, making them a preferred choice for indoor use in fireplaces and wood stoves.

When purchasing from us, customers receive more than just firewood. They are investing in high-quality wood and a commitment to professionalism and consistency. Knockout Firewood is a reputable business, not an individual endeavor. Maintaining our reputation for superior firewood and excellent customer service necessitates cost considerations. In an ideal world, we'd love to sell firewood for $60.00 per face cord without jeopardizing our standards. However, given the current post-COVID-2024 economy, where fuel costs $4.00 or more and manual labor is becoming scarce, we must adjust to these new challenges. As consumers of the economy ourselves, we hope you can understand.

United States Dept of Agriculture holds our product to a high standard. The USDA certification for firewood mainly ensures that the firewood has been properly treated to eliminate any potential pests and diseases. This is important for preventing the spread of invasive species and protecting local ecosystems. Additionally, USDA certification may also ensure that the firewood has been accurately labeled and meets certain quality standards. We are proud to have received recognition from the USDA for implementing the most efficient drying process in Tennessee.

  • Face cord -  A face cord of firewood is a stack of wood that measures 4 feet high, 8 feet long, and one log deep (typically 16 inches). It is a common way to measure and sell firewood, especially in some regions of the United States. However, it's essential to clarify the local standards and the exact measurements when purchasing firewood, as the term "face cord" is not officially regulated and may vary regionally. A "rick" is used interchangeably with "face cord." (See the picture at the top for reference)
  • Rick -  A rick of firewood is a traditional measurement for a stack of wood that typically measures 4 feet high, 8 feet long, and one log deep (often 16 inches). It is a common way to measure and sell firewood in some regions. However, it's important to clarify the local standards and the exact measurements when purchasing firewood, as the term "rick" is not officially regulated and may vary regionally. A "rick" is used interchangeably with "face cord."
  • Cord -  A cord of firewood is a standard unit of measurement for stacked firewood. It measures 4 feet high, 4 feet wide, and 8 feet long, totaling 128 cubic feet. This large quantity of wood is a common way to purchase firewood in bulk. However, verifying the measurements and standards when buying firewood is essential, as the term "cord" should adhere to specific legal and industry requirements.
  • Kiln-dried firewood is wood heated in a kiln to reduce its moisture content. This process makes the firewood easier to light, produces less smoke, and burns more efficiently than unseasoned or air-dried firewood. Kiln-dried firewood is a popular choice for many people who use it for heating or for outdoor fires.
  • Green - Greenwood refers to wood that has been recently cut and has not been dried or seasoned. It contains a high amount of moisture, making it difficult to burn and produce more smoke when used as firewood. Green wood needs to be dried or "seasoned" before it can be used effectively for burning.
  • Seasoned -  Seasoned firewood refers to wood that has been allowed to dry naturally for an extended period, typically for at least six months to a year. During this time, the moisture content of the wood decreases, making it more suitable for burning. Seasoned firewood burns more efficiently, produces more heat, and creates less creosote buildup in chimneys compared to unseasoned or green wood.
  • Hardwoods -  Hardwood is a term used to describe wood from deciduous trees, which are trees that shed their leaves annually. Hardwood is generally denser and has a higher energy content compared to softwood. It is often used for making furniture, flooring, and other high-quality wood products. Some examples of hardwood trees include oak, maple, cherry, and birch.
  • Softwoods -  Softwoods are types of wood that come from coniferous trees, which are characterized by their needle-like leaves and cones. Softwoods are generally less dense than hardwoods and are often used for construction, paper production, and woodworking projects. Some examples of softwood trees include pine, cedar, spruce, and fir.
  • Kindling -   Kindling refers to small pieces of dry wood or other flammable materials used to start a fire. It is often used to ignite larger pieces of firewood or fuel in fireplaces, stoves, and campfires. Kindling ignites easily due to its small size and low moisture content, making it an essential component in starting and maintaining a fire.
  • Logs -  A log is a section of a felled tree, usually the length of the trunk after the branches and bark have been removed. Logs are often used for firewood, building materials, or processed into lumber for construction and woodworking. They come in various sizes depending on the specific application, and they are an essential raw material in many industries.
  • Firewood -  Firewood refers to wood that is specifically gathered and prepared for use as fuel in fires. It is commonly used for heating, cooking, and recreational fires. Firewood can be sourced from a variety of hardwood and softwood trees and is typically cut and seasoned to ensure optimal burning properties.
  • Pre-stacked pallet  -  A pre-stacked pallet of firewood is a pallet of firewood where the pieces of wood are already neatly stacked on the pallet, usually in a specific pattern for stability and efficient use of space. This makes it easier to transport, store, and handle the firewood. It will be delivered with small equipment for easy off loading.
